DHCP renewal fails:  Diagnostic Policy Service prevents troubleshooting.
Two issues. First, the machineno longer gets a DHCPassigned IP4 address. Second, the network troubleshooting fails as the Diagnostic Policy Service fails to start.Have done a restore to the earliest point possible and still, no DHCP assignment and failure to start Diagnostic Policy Service. IPCONFIG /release is unsuccessful. IPCONFIG /renew does not run due to authentication. IPCONFIG /renew is run as Administrator.Used to work. Static IP assignment permits network and Internet operations. Have removed all anti-virus software. Still no go for DHCP.Any Thoughts?

The DHCP issue occurs if the router is not compatible with the network adapter driver in Windows 7 beta. One possible reason is that BROADCAST flag in DHCP discovery packets is not disabled in Windows 7 beta. The following Microsoft KB article has explained this behavior. Windows Vista cannot obtain an IP address from certain routers or from certain non-Microsoft DHCP servers If the issue still occurs, I suggest that you upgrade the firmware of the router. Regarding the Diagnostic Policy Service issue, please launch services.msc, check if Diagnostic Policy Service exists and is enabled. Please let us know the result. Arthur Xie - MSFT
